How To Develop Confidence God’s Way

Hey There,

Today we are going to cover how to develop confidence God’s way! I want to firstly point out that this will not be another “self-help” guide. In fact, it will not be a cure all right away. However, I want you to read this post and think about progress over perfection. It is going to take time to develop which is why I purposely chose that word.

When I think of confidence, I think of a life long journey. In fact, I wish I could tell you that I got it figured out right away like following instructions to building a bike. Truthfully, this has been an ongoing journey for me. Prepare to get on a journey that will break you from time to time to repair you back to better than before.

You see, up until the last few years, I myself was huge into self- help until I realized I couldn’t help myself nor could any other human because WE are the selves that need help. Sure, some of us have certain things figured out. However, the best foundation (especially since we are in the last days ) Is To have God as the foundation and not just another quote  you found on Pinterest.

Now, what I’m not saying is that God cannot use resources outside of His word to teach or remind us, but He will never operate outside of the words He has in His Word.

So today we are going to be going through on how you can found your confidence in God and do it His way.

We will first touch about the foundation of this post based on 2 Corinthians 5:17. We’ll then talk about where this self help age comes from and it’s agenda. Then we’ll talk what you can do to start founding your confidence God’s way today! So, let’s get started shall we?!

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

First, I want to talk about the day you gave your life to Christ. On that day, you said a powerful prayer that would start your journey and walk with Christ. It was from that moment that you were forgiven (from past sins) and your name was written in the Book of life.

I wish I understood this from the jump but here we go: the day you gave your life to Christ you agreed to 2 things: you became a new creation and your old self (including the way we operate) was now dead and buried and 2 you were to no longer live for your flesh but for Christ.

In our walk with Christ there are so many layers of ourselves to peel back because of how deceitful the world has become in indoctrinating us in its ways. In this self help age we have affirmations, we have “self-care”, we are taught that “we” are gods and take the fact that we are made in God’s image and skew removing God from the picture. We also have these thoughts that make us believe that we still own our bodies even after we gave our lives to Christ. As you can see we, still in on way or another, try to walk with one foot in the world and the other with Christ (even if it is unknowingly). Thankfully, we are on a journey and as long as there’s breath in our lungs we can continue growing more each day in our walk with Christ.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So again, I want to emphasize that this is a purposeful journey we are on with Christ. There is no way we will ever be perfect. However, we can be intentional. As you can see Galatians 2:20 tells us that we too got crucified with Christ. Yes this means all of our sins, but if you notice it says “I now live in the flesh I live by faith do the sins of God”. What this tells us is that going forward we live for God even in our humanness.

“Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—“

Colossians 3:9-10

So now that we understand that giving our lives to Christ = getting rid of our old selves which = living for Christ. It would make sense that when it comes to anything self such as self- confidence, self – esteem we will always fall short if we are looking to fulfill it ourselves instead of with Christ.

The new age concept of self wants us to always point back to ourselves and not to God. See, if you do any research on new age it will point you to creators of it who don’t believe in God, that’s number one and two to engage in activities that might seem like they’re filling you up but after a while lead to emptiness. You want to know why? Because they are pointing to self. (I’ll get into kore detail in the near future about this). If God is the giver of life, would you not think He is also the fulfiller of it too?

This is how the enemy creeps in, he has you start asking questions like “did God really say that?“ to get you to compromise just a little bit and then boom you’re living a lifestyle of complete self which is independent of God. So you will be led to believe that you dont need God. “Look at all that I’ve done” is one statement of self- accomplishing. To build (anything) with a firm foundation is to build it upon what Christ did for us on the cross.

Building confidence God’s way is far from “the self” and opposite of what the world says. In fact, we lean on what God has done and not on our ability to do things.  To rely on self and do our “best” is actually vanity in God’s eyes.

God doesn’t want us to build a life apart from Him, but rather with Him. He doesn’t just want to be the accessory of your outfit but your outfit. Why?  Because In God we find true freedom. The freedom to truly be who He created us to be and the freedom to operate in His standards and live a peaceful life.

Here’s how to build confidence God’s way:

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

Jeremiah 17:7

  1. 1. Acknowledge that you are human and DO need God

Go ahead sis, finally, take that pressure OFF of yourself. You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to have it all figured out and you don’t need to always know what to do. That is what you have God for. He delights in when we go to Him. In fact, that’s why the Bible says pray without ceasing because in our prayers we find strategy, confidence, stability, and so much more.

  1. 2. Seek God and read what His word says about His character.

We cannot build our confidence on what we don’t know. Get to know God because the more you do the more you will be able to trust Him. The more you trust Him, the more you will place your confidence IN Him And His ability to do what He wants to do in and through you. I like to ask God what is ones heart for the day. Remember our Christian walk is all about denying ourselves and seeking and learning more about God. The difference between self-confidence and Godly confidence is who is the foundation… you or God. That is why I ask Him daily what is on His heart because through that I get to know Him more and I also allow Him to mature and grow me daily in my walk.

  1. 3. Write out note cards (or memorize) what His word says about YOU! (Your assignment for today! How you can start building your confidence God’s way TODAY) To be confident is to know who the creator has called you to be because you know the creator is trustworthy.

Here are a few verses to get you started:
