If we can all be honest, we can say that for even a moment we have struggled with fear.
See it could have been running away from a bee or maybe stage fright, perhaps it’s even making a mistake or not feeling good enough. Though just examples, for many of us these have been real life. Fear is such a huge tactic from the enemy he uses to cripple us because it comes in many forms.. it can start with approval of others to anxiety of something to doubting yourself or even God and for some ending in depression with the weight fear brings.
Today I want to have a transparent conversation about this word FEAR.. I promised that I would share my journey and even words from God as He leads and this is a word I’ve struggled with in every form.. from fear of not getting another’s approval to doubting myself and even doubting GOD and His ability to show up for me in situations or even be there with me… even having anxiety of things not “working as I thought they would”.. though everything happens in our lives for a reason. Every test is to turn into a testimony and every mess into a message .. In this past season I had a battle with fear like never before.. it even paralyzed me at one point and since we are in a purpose activating environment today— I want to unravel fear with you AND equip you to not let it stand in your way again…
- Identify The “F.E.A.R”
Maybe it’s a business saying, but that is where I first heard F.E.A.R = False Evidence Appearing Real
But you might say, “If its all in my head then why does it feel so real?” And my first thought is that because the mind was made to protect us of only what we know, but thats because it is the nature of it and not always reality. The other is because we might not know God as well and what His word says concerning US and fear.
Because if we truly knew Him well, the very first thing that we would do is to run to Him. If we really understood Him, then we would have full confidence that He is indeed who He says He is. But because we don’t know Him as well as He knows us, we run to everything but Him.
However, when we choose to hide over choosing to come face to face with the things that we fear, we are essentially putting more faith in our circumstances than the One who created us. When we choose to hide over choosing to face the things that we fear, we are essentially believing that the things of the world that we fear are more powerful than the One who hung the stars in the sky and called them by name. And when all of this happens, what we are actually doing is worshipping an idol.
So the first step to releasing fear once and for all is identifying it, but this is very simple… ask yourself “Why am I afraid?” (Write down your answers, if needed) With this question alone, you will be able to identify and give them to God to heal where needed. Again, the mind works to protect us and often it is based on passed situations. When you ask yourself why you are afraid you can start to peel back to layers and soon enough find out where the solution has been all the time. I like to do this because it clears and filters your mind of what is no longer needed to then be able to put in that which IS needed to be the strong, bold, and courageous human God has called you to be.
2. What Does God’s Word Say Concerning Me And Fear
As promised, I want to leave you today equipped on HOW to fight this fear and all of its trails…. if you know me personally I will direct you to the word because God is the best foundation to have. We live in a world that is constantly changing, but know that God NEVER changes. What He says not only is final, but concrete.
Below are the scriptures I have found and used to memorize and meditate on to focus my mind on courage and not fear.. on understanding no matter what God walks with me.. with you and will always go before us… to love on us, to comfort us, to provide for us, and to guide us… especially as we hide His Word in our hearts and build a relationship with Him.
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.”
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. “
“’For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you,’ declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.”
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper.”
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
I encourage you to take these scriptures.. and reach up to God…write them down and as the Bible says in Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Write these on your heart..that is where your foundation to disrupting fear will be… we meditate on the Word so we can give our minds what to think about when fear presents itself in our lives… we will then be able to choose courage over fear… because God goes before us because fear is a tactic from the enemy we have STOPPED subscribing to.
Be BOLD, Be COURAGEOUS, and WALK ON WATER! I promise, it is more fun there!
